So, the past two days I have taken the plunge. I stepped into a 1st grade classroom, lesson in hand, and actually TAUGHT them. Me! I actually was able to complete an entire lesson! And the listened, and seem to actually understand what I was trying to get them to understand! Who knew it could be possible? I mean, I have taught many grade levels, but Kinder and 1st have always scared me. It was as if I would get the cooties or something by all of those little hands and smiles that just touch and look at you as though you are the most beautiful person in the world! (Okay, I am, but still I would like to get that attention from Miss America rather than little ol' first graders!).
Anyway, I went in with a smile on my face, acted normal (whatever that really is!) and did it! It was as if I was Michale Johnson wearing some really awesome new gold Nikes and just made it through the finish line with the gold medal and world record time!
The best part wasn't even the kiddos! It was the conversation I was able to have with another educator! That is my job, to bring out the Big Questions, Teach teachers, get us all seeing new and exciting things that CAN happen! I am blessed to work with such positive people, and people who are willing to learn right there with me...
Now that I did first grade, who thinks I can make it through Kinder....oooooh, now that would be like a claustrophobic getting stuck in an elevator! YIKES
